Its an old method, but its still working like a champ.
ITs hard to get started, and costly too. But it works.

This week i just finish reading a book title "online marketing heroes" and at earlier of the chapter was about web directory... web directory... web directory... web directory...

i was having enough of web directories sites, and though its not going to work. IMHO... directories is not made for human :D,.. its for search engines.
Thats right.. directories is for search engines.

So, if you want to search engine optimise your site and building links.. directory submission might be old fashion. But its the best was to get quality link to your site, and give your site more exposure too.

It depends on what type of directories you are talking about. I have submitted by sites to specialist directories and these have proven to be a great source of direct traffic for me.

I think There are very few directories to submit your site.
I think DMOz and few paid ones are good.

Directories actually still work, but the thing about is it also affects your PR, specially when a directory you are linked from has been banned or known as a link farm.

And you don't want that to happen right?

Go with DMOZ, and other search engines directories (yahoo, google, aol, etc...).

the first and best thing to believe how professional the SEO companies are actually, is taking a look at their own web rankings, not only in Google but all major search engines.

And what is made either for humans, either for search engines are forums. But posting spam links on the web forums is driving crazy both administrators and visitors :)
