Best screen size for web site.

Hello!

What would you say is the best screen size of a website. I've just started on a new one, but i know it wont fit on most monitors. Mine is set to 1280 x 960 which makes it hard to judge on smaller resolution. I hate changing it as is messes with my icons .

So, what's a good size to use in this age?:eek: :confused: :confused:

800x600? 1024x768? The oldest question in website design - 'What's the best monitor screen resolution to use when building your site?

There is none! It's impossible to design a website to look the same in every browser, platform and screen resolution, so don't bother trying. Instead, use a fluid, tableless layout for your design, with % widths that expand and contract to fit a visitors browser setting. Design for the 1024x768 setting and ensure it contracts properly, or 'transforms gracefully', to the 800x600 setting.

a good website should be able to work fine at few screen resolution. 1024x768 is the default for most. its getting bigger in recent year.

If you build your site for a 1024x768 resolution, the site will not display fully on a 800x600 resolution. IE - Your visitor will need to scroll. On the flip side, if you design your site for 800x600, you have to be careful that they scale-up appropriately to 1024x768.

You will be able to get the best templates in a site called thewebpole.com/ . Its a amazing site that I found out just by chance and later on found it to be the best reseller sites. Do browse through the site if you find time.
